Since NUJABES launched HYDE OUT PRODUCTIONS & DJ RYOW headed up PLEASURE PRODUCTS, jazzy'n mellow Hip Hop has solidly built up one of the movements of Underground Hip Hop scene in Japan. In such a scene here we have SUBCONTACT(!), is the one all the headz getting down there has enthusiastically supported and will give their faith to in the time to come.
The label C.E.O. (who also hold the additional post of the A&R) answering our question out of curiosity, about the roots of their label name.
"The recent music scene is so chaotic that the unique situation tosses listeners among so many releases and irresponsible information, but we try to get contact deeply into people's unconscious actions, and their subconscious, which we believe stirs up our action, then try to produce our pieces (music, design...whatever) of what genuinely considered it's good. It is our concept and where the label name "SUBCONSCIOUS" + "CONTACT" = SUBCONTACT came from."
Well...
Beginning by their 1st release, a remix project of 90's underground hit tracks (also reissued recently) by GROOVEMAN SPOT A.K.A. DJ KOU-G, then follow up materials of RAW PRODUCE "CYCLES-GROOVEMAN SPOT REMIX" & "SOUND DRIPS 1" (on which DJ RYOW A.K.A.SMOOTH CURRENT did a remix work of the new tracks by STYLES OF BEYOND), SUBCONTACT has set up a bunch of releases by international artists like SUPASTITION, EARL, HEZEKIAH, DJ DAY, DJ MILES(BREAKESTRA), DOOLEY-O, as well as Japanese DJs, sound creators include CRADLE, SHARAKU, MISTA DONUTS.Outside of their own sound materials, they've got license releases from the artists of FRESH AIR, LONGEVITY CREW, CHOICE 37, also support HIMUKI (who came from the same city as SUBCONTACT label owner, check his fantastic album on P-Vine), IZAMAI....the artists from other fields through distributing, the label has such a swinging footwork, is simply an eye-opener.
"SOUND DRIPS 2" EP was dropped just at the right time, the one should be honored as their showcase at the moment. The EP includes the tracks from a 2-man-unit called CRADLE (who's achieved fame with a big hit 12" feat. ALOE BLACC of EMANON), from SHARAKU, the label's brightest hope, track producer stays on top of artistic instrumental music (his music would even put OMID & COSINER" to shame!!), a mix master MISTA DONATS (well known for the releases of "SOUND CONTACT#1 and SOUND CONTACT #5). Also the EP features 2 dope tracks from SENN and GROOVEMAN SPOT (fame of RAW PRODUCE "CYCLES" remix). That EP should knockout everyone who hear any of the track featured, also promise us their evolved future eternally coming.
Thus, just checking the line up of their catalog, with the epoch-making "SOUND DRIP 2" EP in our hands.
